Public Media Women in Leadership Executive Director (Part Time)

Fully Remote/ Part Time (25-28 hours per week on average)
Annual salary - $75,000

For the past six years, Public Media Women in Leadership has impacted the lives of hundreds of women in the system through professional growth opportunities. Most notably, our mentorship and engagement initiative has connected women across the nation for a structured partnership focused on fostering their leadership development. We are looking for an experienced leader who can build on the success and engagement of our community and strategically guide the organization to its next level of impact and sustainability.

The ideal Executive Director for Public Media Women in Leadership (PMWL) has a dynamic blend of strategic foresight, empathetic leadership and unwavering ethical integrity, backed by over 15 years of experience in public media. They have a history of successfully navigating the complexities of public media, demonstrating a keen ability to anticipate future trends and opportunities. Their empathetic approach to mentorship and team management has fostered inclusive and supportive environments, while their outstanding communication skills have enabled them to articulate visions and ideas compellingly, fostering strong relationships within and beyond the organization. Innovative in their problem-solving, they have a track record of transforming challenges into opportunities, driving organizational growth. Above all, their career is underpinned by a steadfast commitment to ethical practices, ensuring trust and respect from colleagues, board members, and the wider PMWL community.

This position will manage one support staff member and report to the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships with leaders in the nationwide public public media community, representing PMWL as its chief executive officer and spokesperson.

  • Design and foster mutually beneficial partnerships with major participants in the public media sector.

  • Work with PMWL staff to ensure the success of key in-person and virtual gatherings.

  • Identify, develop, and implement business opportunities and business models that reflect and advance PMWL’s mission.

  • Maintain effective communication with the Board regarding developments in operations, providing complete and timely information relevant to important issues and decisions.

  • Act as PMWL’s official agent in contractual and financial matters.

  • Collaborate with accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting providers to develop budgets and financial plans for review and approval by the Board of Directors.

Experience:

  • Successful history within Public Media (15 or more years) leading teams, mentorship and relationship building.

  • Direct experience working with a board of directors.

  • History of developing external relationships including funders. Strong existing relationships are preferred.

  • Comfortable creating a vision and communicating it widely including speaking opportunities and convening thought leaders.

  • Considerable experience developing and executing strategies and business and/or financial models.

  • A proven track record that inspires trust.

Occasional travel required to conferences, funder meetings, etc.

The Public Media Women in Leadership Mentor Program caters to the professional and leadership development journeys of women and non-binary people who are comfortable in a space that centers on the experiences of women in public media through the facilitation of one-on-one mentoring partnerships.

AMBASSADORS

Ambassadors bring fresh and current perspectives to the forefront of the organization by tapping into the diverse talent of women within our industry. Ambassadors serve as conveners and advocates for PMWL by participating in a variety of roles including research and content leads, webinar producers, social media experts, event moderators/hosts/facilitators, among others.

CONNECTION HOURS

Connection Hour, a membership perk for PMWL's individual sustaining and one-time supporters, are virtual networking mixers designed to convene thought-provoking convos that are fun and interesting, and not a waste of time. In a world where we’re all in need of some work + life balance, these meetups are designed to open your mind and expand your thinking with a dash of socializing and networking.

SWEET AND SOUR CHATS

Our monthly Sweet and Sour chats are a safe space focusing on the experience of thriving through chaos. All are welcome, especially those who want and are willing to share their story.

Our purpose is threefold:

  1. Establishing a mentorship program to better prepare women with potential to become future CEOs/COOs in the system;

  2. Creating a community via Facebook and webinars/trainings to encourage conversation and sharing about issues related to women in leadership;

  3. Create awareness in the public media industry about the critical need to diversify station leadership. We are committed to supporting the professional and leadership development journeys of women in public media through our various initiatives.
