Public Media Women in Leadership Announces Appointment of New Board Members

Board Members commit to taking the organization to the next level

(July 25, 2022) Public Media Women in Leadership (PMWL), the organization focused on supporting the leadership and professional development journeys of women and gender expansive folks in public media, announced the appointment of six new members to its board of directors.

The board of directors is comprised of the following leaders within and outside of public media:

  • Liz Adeola, Producer / Host, PBS Utah

  • Liz Cheng, General Manager for Television, GBH

  • Emily Julka, Multimedia Producer, PBS Wisconsin

  • Joyce MacDonald (Treasurer), President and CEO, Greater Public

  • Patti Perez, Founder and Chief Drama Slayer, PersuasionPoint

  • Jennifer Strachan (Secretary), CEO, Cinereach

PMWL’s Founder, Deanna Mackey, who serves as Board Chair, said the following about the new board of directors:

“I am honored and humbled to have this tremendous group of women serving on the board of PMWL,” Mackey said. “We are a small but mighty organization that is committed to preparing women and underrepresented racial/ethnic groups in public media to lead our industry into the future. We have big goals and our board members and partners have given their time, talent and treasure to ensure we can succeed on our journey. I could not be more grateful for their commitment.”

Public Media Women in Leadership

Public Media Women in Leadership was founded in January 2015 by Deanna Mackey and Jeannie Ericson to provide a forum for women leaders and aspiring leaders to support and learn from each other, provide training and mentorship opportunities, build community and advocate for women leadership within public media. The PMWL currently has more than 2,400 active members in its Facebook Group and provides training webinars on both public media and leadership topics and hosts an annual one-day workshop, Break Through and conference, Brave Talk. While Ericson has left public media, Mackey is the incoming General Manager of KPBS in San Diego. She previously served as president of the Public Television Major Market Group. Veronica Varela Reyes, PMWL’s Mentorship and Engagement Coordinator, leads the organization on a day-to-day basis.
